Skirmish Shots.
Ex Senator Fenton, of New York, has declared himself emphatically for Hayes and Wheeler. He was a Greeley liberal. Mr. L. P. Walker, ex-Rebel secretary of war, thinks the inauguration of Gov. Tilden at Wasliington is the only salvation of the country. •‘Where does the money go?” asks a democratic paper. The Albany Journal answers: “A barrel of it went to St. Louis, and Bates A Locke got another.” I have the highest respect for the personal character and intelligence ot the republican candidate for the presidency, and believe him to be an upright gentleman. — Gen. MeCMlan. When Kilpatrick threw his conundrum at a Pittsfield audience, “What was Tilden doing in the dark days when Hayes was shoulder to * shoulder wi th the army boys ?’’ a boy in the crowd replied promptly, “A wipin’of ids chin.”
