New trunks at Willey <& Sigler’s. A full stock of boots and shoes at F. J. Sears A Co.’s. Call and examine the splendid cashmeres at Willey and Sigler’s. Hon. Geo. Major is billed to speak in the court house Saturday evening. Mr. Albert W. Cleveland and wife have gone on a short visit to Clevelaud, Ohio. George L. Morgan is preparing to open a meat shop in the Shanghai building. We regret to leurn of the serious illness of Mr. Wm. W. Reed, four miles south of town. For a nice line ot dress goods, just opened for the full trade, go to F. J. Sears & Co.’s. Mr. Doerle, formerly clerk for A. Leopold, has engaged in that capacity with F. J. Sears & Co. The famous American sewing machine sold by Willey & Sigler is taking the lead in this market. Mrs. Mattie Goff is again among friends at Rensselaer, after an absence of several months in Motnence, Ili.

Roiulebush and Nancy Burns were granted a license to marry by the clerk of Jaspercounty, on the 23d instant. A large, choice selection of fall goods just opened at Willey & Sigler’s, which will be sold at the lowest possible prices. Since Monday evening heavy showers of rain have fallen in this locality, very much improving the prospects of the corn crop. Willey «& Sigler have the largest stock of edgings, laces, ties, ribbons, embroideries, gloves, etc., ever opened in this market. Have you seen those floe cashmeres at F. J. Scars & Co.’s? If not it will pay you to give them a look before buying anywhere else. The annual meeting for 18T6 of (he Jasper County Teachers’ Institute will be iu session at the public school house in Rensselaer next week. Mr. F. J. Sears and wife have gone on an extended visit to Clinton, lowa, and other parts of the country. They will be absent several weeks.
• Miss Mell Wright will return to school, at Adrian, Michigan, the first of next week. She has been enjoying quite an extended vacation with her many friends at this place. Rev. Granville Moody, of Ilipley, 0., will hold a two days’ meeting at Pleasant Grove school house, Barkley township, September 9th and lOih. On Sunday the preaching will be in the grove, and it will be a basket meeting. 2t.
Hon. Clarence A. Busk irk, attorney general of the state of Indiana, and democratic candidate for reelection, will speak iu Rensselaer, at 2 o’clock p. m. Friday, September Bth. The democracy are laboring to make a great demonstration on that day. Miss Matie Howard starts tomorrow morning for Ladoga, the scene of her future labors. She is engaged as musical instructor in .the normal school which opens at that place uext Tuesday, May she meet with unbounded success, is the wish of The Union. Mr. P. M. Bowen has settled at El Paso, Sedgwick county, Kansas. He formerly lived two miles north of Rensselaer. He writes under date of August 20th, enclosing subscription price ot The Union i lbr a year, and says “I have been taking The Union for five years and think it a desirable paper.” While in town this morning Mr. IJ. 8.
