This morning on account of their bad condition the mail Was taken to Francesville on a led home,, the carrier riding another ■ At 10 o’clock this morning the thermometer indicated 88 degrees of heat in the ■hpde. The air is heavy with moisture, the sky overcast with low, sluggish-moving clouds, through the rifts of which beams down the sunshine moot oppressively. A light breese is springing up from the west and the afternoon may w more comfortable. A strong gale prevailed early Wednesday morning during the rain storm. J net what was the extent of the damage done by it we havquot hoard; but among other a portion of the, Alter mill-dam, seven miles north of Rensselaer, broke away under the combined assaults of wind and water, washing out the rdad at the oast end of the dam and making It impassible until it is repaired. This morning Mr. Harvey W. wood’s child'about two years old was severely scalded by spilling a cup of coffee at the breakfast table into its left sleeve. All the upper' part of its arm from wrist to shoulder was blistered, a portion so badly thaPthe skin came off. Part of the Scalding liquidfell oa one of its l egs , bumin g it to some extant.
