He was confined to answer the charge of car robbing on the P. C. & St. L. R. li. Eighty-five vessels, Including four propellers and one steamer, arrived at the port of Michigan City during July. They brought and unloaded upon the docks 9,375,000 feet of lumber, 5,400,000 shingles, 1,650,000 lath, 100,000 feet of timber and 3,000 barrels of salt. • Since March over 4,040 car loads of sand have been moved from the dunes at Michigan City aud taken to Chicago, Kensington, Jackson and Detroit, to be used for ballasting side-tracks, filling in engine bouses, and various other railroad purposes. The Michigan Central Railroad .company have been using it and will take away about 9,000 1 car loads more.
