An Attractive Shooting Gallery.
A very ingeniously-devised shootinggallery for air-guns has been in successful operation for several days in Hartford. The guns and the targets with their various methods of denoting a good shot are alj. the inventions of the proprietor, and are the most interesting and amusing of any gallerv in the country. There are some dozen different targets’, each with a different method of registering a bull'seye. A German bugler beinsr struck in the heart raises his "bugle to "liis mouth and blows a call: a vivandiere rattles a drum; a little door opens and a hunter shoots a deer; a trap drops and a shoemaker is seen busily a work; a port-hole opens and a miniature -gunner runs out and fires a miniature cannon: a wicket opens and a cuckoo appears and sings his festive song: a big Indian drops liis arm and fires a pistol; two goats are set to fighting while the shepherd looks calmly out of a window; a dangerous looking lion opens his mouth and roars, and an eagle drops lifeless on his back/ The mechanism is very ingenious, and the gallery has, aflorded much amusement to "marksmen as well as to the children. The guns are noiseless, the only noise being made by the occasional drums and pistols, and these have been discontinued at the request of persons living in the vicinity who were inconvenienced.
