Self-esteem is a big thing. Jasper Packard, editor of the Laporte Chronicle, is a member of Congress, and was charged by the Rensselaer Union with having been iu some way connected with the Pacific Mail subsidy swindle. Wo don’t know whether he | was or not, but we do know he pocketed the salary-grab, and even after that he considers his character worth ten thousand dollars, and has sued the Union fbjr that amount of damages because of ;ts Pacific Mail subsidy’ charge.
