A Brutal Father.

The township of Albany, Berks County, Ij’a., has an inhabitant named Jesse Miller, Jr. The other inhabitants are appalled at the temper of said Jesse, and are considering what ought to be done with him. He is frightfully emotional, and under the impulse of anger does the most ferocious acts. When be becomes enraged at a horse or cow he flies at the animal like a beast of prey, and he has been known to kill several head of stock in these fits of madness. So long as it was his own stock, and dumb brutes his neighbocs'let him do as he liked, but he did a tiling the other day which aroused them against him almost in an attitude of vengeance. Jesse Miller, Jr., was sitting close by the stove in his kitchen. One of his girls in pouring some boiling water from the tea kettle accidentally spilled a few drops upon her father’s hand. This made’ the man jump, and he flew into one of his fits of anger. He got a large-sized dipper, tilled it with water from the steaming kettle and dashed it in his daughter’s face. Then he sat down by the stove again and rubbed his hands in glee. The girl was frightfully scalded and screamed with pain. And that father would not allow a doctor’ to be called or anything done for the child, and he exercised such a terror over the rest of his family that they did not dare to speak. The screams of thtf suffering child finally brought the neighbors to the house, and they took the matter into their own hands and dared the monster to interfere. A doctor fras brought, but the little girl was in total darkness—both her eyes gone out and her pretty, innocent, face scarred for life. The sight was heart-rending, and the act is sickening to contemplate. And those aroused neighbors of Jesse Miller, Jr., are considering whether such a wild animal as he has any business to run at liberty in Berks County. It ought not to take them long to come to a conclusion.—Sfr Louit Jit-, 1 publican.
