INDIANA NEWS ITEMS.

AUtm County. The VesideiH'e of William Kennon, near Monroeville, w«s burned to the ground a few nfthts ago. In consequence of a defective Hue* About d&ylfreak the other morning, near Fort Wayne, one section of an eastem-bound freight train ran into the other section, demolishing a heavy freight engine and the caboose car. No person wa6 Injured. Deltwan Ostat) . A farmer named Gregory was instantly killed at Eaton, a few nights ago, by being run over by a freight train. His bead was crushed to a Jelly. The accident was attributed to his' own carelessness. A very bad accident took place near Eaton, on the Fort Wayne, Muncic <& Cincinnati Railroad, on the 13th. The passenger train going north, while crossing a bridge, was thrown frem the track and the passenger coach with about twenty-seven passengers was thrown to the bottom, a distance of about fifteen feet. But one or two escaped uninjured and three or four had died at last accounts. Elkhart County. —~ Edward Burkey had his foot horribly mangled in a cog-wheel a few days ago. while driving a horse-power on his father's farm, a few miles from Goahea. La Grange County. The farm dwelling of Levi Wyland, situated about four miles north of La Grange,was burned lately. None of the contents were saved and the family barely escaped with their lives. The falling in of the roof was their first intimation of danger. Loss #B,OOO. Cause defective flue. Laporv county. The McCurdy House, at Wanatah, was recently burned, together with the depot and telegraph office of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railroad adjoining. The entire loss was about #13,000. The fire was caused by a defective flue. ■— The large two-storv house belonging to the Widow Ransom,-four miles east of Laporte, was destroyed by fire a few nights ago. Loss #5,000. 1 Vlarlon County. Claries Clark, an Indianapolis laborer, was recently run over and horribly mangled by a Vandalia switching-engine. He was deaf, and the frost on the cab-window prevented 'the engineer from seeing him. Glazier & Morris' grain elevator at Indian--UHjlis was partially destroyed by fire the other night. The loss was about #12,000 Five thousand bushels of corn were burned. Powy County. •lames Lytle, seventeen years old, living near Mount Vernon, committed suicide lately by cutting Iris throat from earth ear,- because a young lady to whom he had been paying his addresses had broken the engagement. Vigo -County. At Terre Haute, the other day, while endeavoring to couple an engine to a coal ear, Fred Pennell waa caught between the bumpers and rushed into a four-inch space. It was thought he would die. Whitley County. ,1. 6. King, a sewing-machine agent at Columbia City, has been arrested upon the charge .of forging notes, upon which he realized about #I.OOO.
