COMMISSIONERS COURT.
The Board of Commissioners of Jasper county met in the Auditor’s office Kensselaer, Indiana, January sth, 1874, pursuant to supimous. Present, Wm. K. Parkinson, Jared Benjamin and Samuel McCullough, Commissioners, F. W. Babcock, Auditor, wud Lewis L. Daugherty, .Sheriff. Proposals were received from Jacob Dilavoo, Jacob M. Troxell and Charles B.; Steward, to superintend or lease the county Poor Farm, and keep paupers. The proposition of the termer was to superintend and furnish labor for the farm for S6OO per annum, and keep paupers for $3 per week. Mr. Troxell proposed to pay S3OO a year rent for the farm, or to furnish teams, implements, labor, etc., to cultivate it for S7OO a year, and keep paupers at $2.50 a week, and insane and idiotic at 54.75 a week. The latter gentleman, Mr. Steward, proposed to superintend the farm, furnish teajtis, etc., for SSOO a year, and to keep all paupers for s—a week. Board rejected these projwisalß and appointed Mr. Jared Benjamin their agent to lease the farm and contract for keeping paupers upon terms as favorable to the county as possible. Made allowances as follows:—To James & Healey, for printing and publishing, $46.75; Henry Bowman, for writing in Register of Railroad Tax Refunded, $10; J. I. Purcupile & Co,, clothing to John Thomas, pauper, $3.25; J. H. Snoddy. services as county School Superintendent. SB6; Frank \V. Babcock, to be applied on allowance for services in refunding Railroad Tax, $125; Lewis L. Daugherty, per diein for atteudingCommissionerscourt, $3; Wm. K. Parkinson, Jared Benjamin aud Samuel McCullough, per diem as Commissioners, each $4. January 7th, Mr. Jared Benjamin as agent for tlx# Board leased t in: Poor Farm to Mr. Philip McElfresh for the term of three years, beginning March Ist. 1874, for a rent of $360 per annum, and said renter contracts “to board, wash and mend for, and in all suitable manner provide for—in sickness and iu Health—all paupers, insane aud idiotic persons who may be county charges upon said premises on the Ist day of March, 1874, and ail such persona as may become such county charges and be sent to the county farm during the term of the aforesaid lease, for the sum of $2 per week for each person so kept. And it is understood and agreed that the care and keeping abdve named shall bind said second party’ to furbish for such persons so kept comfortable beds aud bedding, and good and wholesome food iu suitable quantities. Kuch care and keeping shall not include medical services and medicines.”
