Compiled from the Journal. ’ 'Coal is selling at $8.50 per ton. A recent street fight progressed to conclusion without interference by peace officers. Fourteen car loads of cattle were recently shipped East from Remington in one day. The County Superintendent of Instruction held a teacher’s examination at Remington Saturday. Mr. George Major and Mr. N. W. Rawlings have gone to the far West, for pleasure and business. The teachers in the Remington schools are Mr. U. R. Nei’sz, Miss Juliette Nelson and Miss C. E. Logan. Thomas Ferguson .won SSO at the Remington races, week ago last Saturday. They were largely attended. Mrs. McLain and daughter have returned to their former residence at Michigan City, where they will engage in the millinery business. The first township teacher’s institute of the season, for Carpenter township, will be held in .Remington school house on the first day of November next. Mr. W. 11. Ilenkle, living three miles west of Remington, had a large quantity of hay, corn, a number of calves, farming implements and other pioperty destroyed by fire on Monday last week. The fire was communicated from sparks of a passing train of cars to the prairie, and from thence to the property. — Loss estimated at about SSOO.
