“Yes, Why ?”

The Albany Journal asks, “Why should the people distrust Republicanism and confide in Democracy ? Democrats initiated the war, organized the rebellion, sympathized with treason, opposed emancipation, fought against civil rights, and sought to eipbarrass the Government in all its efforts to rehabilitate the States, establish order, enforce the laws, punish violence and bring stability and peace out of the chaos of war. But Republicans promptly met the responsibilities of the conflict which was thrust upon them, stood by the Government and the country through the fearful struggle, conquered a pence, gavf frt'cdom to the sUve, equal rights to all the people, protection of the weak, security to property and life, a stable currency, and unparalleled prosperity and an enduring peace to the country. It requires but to look upon this picture and upon that to decide which party is most deserving of the popular favor, and which, is most likely to receive" it.
