As heretofore, the examinations of applicants tor license to teach school in Jasper county will he held on the last Saturday in each month. Purcupile & Cb. have the best buckle plow shoes to be found iif the market; also laced plow shoes. It is only the rheumatism that afflicts Mr. David Thompson, causing him to wear a cane, and not a boil, as a young lady was led to surmise. Every one that wants a good pair of Oaoots or shoes should not fail to call (on Purcupile & Co. A few cents worth of Kannal’s potato bug poison will kill more bugs In one day than you can kill with your hands in a week. The manly amusement of croquet is rapidly being superceded in the affections of our sporting population by the less violent though equally exciting game of draughts. Try Kannal’s cigars for quality and price. He keeps the best cigars in town for the price and is always ready to wait on customers. Mart. Warner keeps a full supply of bologna sausage on hand, yet there is no perceptible diminution in the number of worthless dogs and cats that prowl about town. , 72 pairs of men’s plow packs just received at l , urcupile- < & Co.’s. and will be sold as low as rhej' cnu be arumled in this market. He is one of the best country hotel keepers in America. 14 Tire season for painting is rapidly drawing near and people who intend to renovate-aml improve t)re appearance of property should get the best materials. Emmet Kannal keeps tlie celebrated Averill Chemical Paint in all colors, tints and shades; also white load and oil in large supply.' .Mr. Stanton Luster returned to Jasper county last week, after a sojourn of two years in Nebraska, lie thinks the much advertised advantages of Nebraska over other localities resembles a mirage that recedes as rapidly as approached. ■* 10 lbs. dried peaches, extra, 9 “ choice N> O. sugar, “ 1.00 _lO “ brown “ - “ “ 1.00 7t “ “A” white “ “ 1.00 4 “ choice codec, for 1.00 Natural leal tea, per lf>, 75 Prunes, per lb, 15 Extra yard wide muslin, per yd, 121 A few pieces line eussuuere, new .styles.. calico and ciioice selection of percales, at Ludd Hopkins*. Clean up about your premises.— Don’t leave filth to decay in back lots, becauso it smells badly, and, besides, renders the lo-cality-unhealthy. Cholera lias already appeared in cities and towns along the Mississippi river and the only su fe p reventivc of-its app ear - ance in our place is to keep person and dwelling clean. 2, Several monunients from the establishment of W. W. Foster at Remington, have recently been erected in Weston Cemetery at this place. They arc of the finest Italian marble, elegantly finished, and display workmanship that will favorably compare with any in the United States. Air. Foster’s enterprise is coiinncndable, and‘we trust he will meet with a liberal r encouragement. , Ilank Bowman’s #50,000 horse tried to chaw him up the other day. He seized Hank, by the left should- 1 er, taking his mouth full, and brought the blood, at the same time trying to strike him with bis fore feet. With great presence of mind Hank coolly fastened his right hand on' the horse’s throat with a vice like grip and actually choked his mouth open, when it was easy to release his shoulder from chancery. That horse is now for sale at a discount - of #5,000 from the above figures. - Last Friday constable Peacock - succeeded iirarresti ng-David A. Snyder who was charged with being ope of the parties that?attempted to murder the Wormct family in Walker township. Peacock - brought his prisoner to Rensselaer where he had a preliminary examination on Saturday. The Justice adjudged him guilty and fixed his bail at five thousand dollars. vSnyder failed to find the necessary pe.rspns to go on his recognizance and was turned over to Sheriff Daugherty who took him to Monticcllo and locked him up in jail
