Now, when a cold snap prevails it is said that a “polar wave” is passing. One of these came up out of the sou’-v.-est Tuesday night and blew its • frosty breath upon this locality, making the past thirty or forty hours very disagreeable indeed. But why does a “polar waye’J_jusdnsver these vast uninterrupted prairies from out or the south south-west? Mr. David Gray. Trustee of Hanging Grove township, tells us thathe harvested 997 bushels of corn on a ten acre field, on his farm, the past season, ’('here are thousands of acres of land in Jasper county yet uncultivated that will produce as well, and much of it can be bought for $lO an acre, or even Ess, and on easy terms. Dr. Kelley ordered us to announce the loss of his spectacles and otter a reward for their recovery; we did soj and the Doctor's family had scarcely read the notice before his spectacles were found at his wood-pile. They knew it was no use to be lost any longer and came out where they could be readily seen. • Probably Maritin township will be compelled to pay a heavy bill of damages on account of that dangerous grade and bridge at the edge of town on the Bunkuni road* before the authorities have it put where it ought to be. Last sutnmej two teams ran off I from it and day before yesterday a I -heavily loaded wagon "scooted" off' tb.e grade, upset, smashed things and ! seriously’ hurt the driver.
