All About a Lost Umbrella.
Thb following is a verbatim copy of a letter recently received by Mr. Thayer, general baggage master of the Little Miami Railroad in Cincinnati: “ Baggage-Master L. M. Depot, Clncirnati, Ohio: “Last Friday morning I had the pleasure of riding on one of your very comfortable cars from the city of Columbus, Ohio—the capital of the State—to Xenia, the county seat of Greene county. After waiting the space of a few hours, I took my seat in a coach of another train, which conveyed mo in a short time to the village of Freeport, where I took the liberty to stop ana see my friends. When I arrived at Xenia, 1 arose out of my seat and deliberately walked out of the car, forgetting that I was the owner of a new and valuable umbrella which lay on the rack above my head. A lew hours afterward I remembered that I had left my umbrella in the car, and the memory of this produced in my bosom no small degree of regret, for I had r purchased it only a few days before in the city of Columbus for the sum of $2, and do not think I was cheated. The material—steel ribs, muslin, and wooden handle—l estimate as being worth 75 cents, the work of making fltotal f 1,75, allowing 25 cents profit to the seller. I don’t think the price was out of the way. The making required much work, especially on the handle. That part designed to be held by the hand is curved In something like a semi-circular form, and on the end of it is carved the head of a dog of the canine species; the work on the head is very well executed, except that, perhaps, its nose is a little too long. “ Baid umbrella has not been marked in my name, unless some one has marked it since I saw it last. I intend marking it if I ever get it again. “My wife and children will join me in expressing much thanks to you if you will be kind enough to look amongst the lost articles in your possession, and if you find it send it by express to me, at Wilmington in this State. Yours, very truly, “ O. W Pritchard.” The man got his umbrella.
