Green corn retails on our streets this week for ten cents a dozen.. Col. Briughurst, of Logansport, IT. S. Mail Agent, was iu town Tuesday. lion. Schuyler Colfax has our thanks lor recent attentions in the Way of congressional documents. The Iroquois river is lower now than it has been before this season. There is no grinding being done at the mill. The Rensselaer Brass Band advertises to give ft grand combination entertainment at the Court House to-morrow evening. Most everybody want to attend Capt. Thomas’ exhibition to-night and hear him explain how those wonderful tricks of legerdemain are performed. The Common Sense Sewing Machine advertised in another column by Mr. J. S. Hopkins, is said to be really a meritorious piece of household furniture. Its cheapness places it within the reach of every family. - ■« Messrs. Leopold and Heidi eliergcr had a little difficulty in making, u business settlement which terminated in a little fight on Monday. The offended peace and dignity of the State was satisfied by a contribution to the school fund. To-night Capt. Thomas will perform the following tricks and explain just how they are done: Changing copper to silver; mystic coin and hat; the disappearing watch, bill, &e., reappearing in Alhemet’s chest; cards called from box; transposition of ink into •water; changing cards from faced to spots; the goblin bell. Besides these he will also introduce a number of tricks never before shown by him. Everybody should come out and sec the fun. The many friends of lion. Ezra Wright in Jasper county will be sorry to learn that lie has sold his property in this place and contemplates moving to Southern Illinois. We understand he starts week from next Monday. Mr. Wright has been a citizen of the county for many years and has taken a warm interest iu its growth and welfare. Ho was county treasurer lor two terms, represented the district in the lower house of the State legislature two terms and served in the State seaiate one term. We are sorry to loose so good a citizen and hope lie may be successful where Use goes

Mr. McKim has recently purchased the Lockwood corner, moved the buildings off and is now preparing to erect a large stoue build- - mg on the site. Tho Haver House maintains its well earned reputation and under itho management of the present proprietors is increasing its fame. 'Good food, good beds, comtortablo accommodations, attentive servants and moderate charges are among its attractions. Dr. Kelley has just returned from Chicngo with an extensive stock of pictures, paintings, Ac., which he will open on Saturday for public inspection. He also purchased three new cameras for taking, copying, and enlarging photographs, umbrotypes, melanotypcs, Ac., Ac., together with a complete assortment of frames, cases and the necessary chemicals. While in Chicago he engaged the services of Mr. Hall, an experienced photographer aud is now prepared to fill all or-* dors in his lino in a prompt mid satisfactory manner.
Having sold out, parties interested are notified that all accounts owing me must be settled, either by note or otherwise, by the 15th of August.— After that date unsettled accounts will be placed in proper hands for collection. This time business is meant. E. E. Lockwood.
