A new Lodge of Odd Fellows was instituted atGoodland, Newton county, last Friday evening, under the name of “Goodland Lodge No. 946.” The instituting ceremonies were conducted l>y Dist. Dcp. G. M. Horace E. James, assisted by members of the order from this plaoe and Remington. The officers installed were Wm. M. Scott, Noble Grand, Wm. B. Canine, Vice Grand, Chas. Hartley, Secretary, Blake Wilson, Treasurer. Corporation election is to be held next Monday, May 2d. The most important office to fill is that of Town Marshal. His duties are to collect taxes and supervise the work on the streets. Uiider a recent act of the legislature each incorporated town is a road district within itself and draws public money for road purposes. This year the town of Rensselaer will probably have i about $l5O besides ttyo days labor from each person subject to poll tax to be expended upon her streets, hence the importance of selecting an efficient and judicious Marshal. John E. Trent, formerly doing business in the “Liberal Corner” building, writes to us that somebody in Rensselaer has been corresponding with the sheriff of hip county concerning him, stating that he left this place in debt, &c., Ac., and that a reward has been offered for bis apprehension. He desires us to say that his address is “No. 0 Scott Avenue, Fort Scott, Bourbon county, Kansas,” and if any needy individual wishes to win laurels and the reward, let him proceed Westward, ho! and he will be welcomed with friendly hospitality, by the said Trent. He writes that he is in business in that city, but that he and Mart. Warner have dissolved partnership. Respects to all, <fcc. See the announcement of Hon. Norman Warner, of Jasper county, ; for Congress. Although Mr. War- | ner has never been prominent! in political matters aud may not be ! generally known to politicians in the lltli district, yet bis sterling integrity*his uprightness in business transactions, his fidelity to principles, no less than his acknowledged capacity, have long since made him conspicuous among his acquaintances and they have frequently honored him by their suffrages, until lie to-day he is the jovial and resplendent coroner of his county. Born at an early period of his mundane existence in the glorious old Commonwealth of Con necticut—the land of wooden nut megs, qunhangs and Withcrsfield onions—he learned lessons of temperance, economy and industry in boyhood, which have been of immense practical advantage during the years of youth and curly manhood. We have great pleasure in bringing him thus prominently to public notice, and unhesitatingly endorse him as fully qualities' to fulfil his promises with satisfaction to the masses and profit to himself as any man aspiring to the position. Besides he is from the southern part of the district^
