About three inches of snow fell in Jasper county last Friday night, nnd the weather has been quite cold ever since. Such early cold weather continuing so long has not been experienced during the fifteen years we have lived in the county. The ground was unfrozen and very dry; sloughs, marshes and streams, usually filled with water at this season of the year, were many of them without a drop m their beds; the Iroquois river is so low that the grist mill at this place can not be run more than one or two hours a day; forest trees were still covered with leaves, and farmers had not fully completed their preparations for winter. The snow fell silently, without wind, and being damp, loaded every tree, bending many of them to the ground, while twigs and large branches were broken from others by the great fall of snow lodged on them. ———<>——— Best brands of white winter wheat flour constantly on hand at Heidleberger's.
