REMINGTON ITEMS.
Onr correspondent “L,” of Remington sends us the following items: The festival held in Remington on the evening of the 12th instant, for the benefit of the Presbyterian church was a success, and those who partook of the good things on the tables passed many praises upon the ladies who presided over them for their untiring efforts to make everything pleasant and acceptable. The amount realised was SIOO. This enterprise having proved so successful, the friends, of the church think of making an oyster and peach supper sometime during the winter the, proceeds to be used in erecting a gallery and purchasing an organ for the church. Due notice will be given of this supper and an invitation extended to the people of Rensselaer and vicinity. On the 13th, Professor J. L. Logan, of Hagarstown, Ind., and Miss Mattie A. Patton, of Remington, were married. The ceremony was performed at the residence of Dr. D. 11. Patton, by Rev. W. A. Patton assisted by Rev. Mr. Hughs. Last night, 18th instant, some scoundrel went through Justice B. B. Jeffries’ dwelling taking his pocket book containing about (57 in money and some valuable papersit is thought the thief concealed himself in the house before it was closed for the night, as the door is fastened with a bolt which can not be displaced from the outside. The villain had to pass the hed in which the children lay and the one where Mr. Jeffries slept, walking the whole length of the house. It is supposed chloroform was used as both Mr. Jeffries and his wife arc ussually easily awakened but heard no noise that night. As editors arc presumed to know everything, can’t you tell us whether the thief that robbed Esquire Jeffries is not the person who took Hemphill's money?
