Our friend “Jvsth'k” sent in his article too late for publication in this issue. New potatoes of good quality and fair size sold in this place last Saturday, for $1 per bushel. Scool teachers and the patrons of the Rensselaer schools will find a.notice in which they are interested, iu our advertising columns. The concert last Saturday evening was well attended, and the performances very good. There is a good deal of latent talent among our young people that a little training would soon develop. Town Marshal, Frank J. I’urcu pile, lias issued notice that all unringed swine over three months old found running at large within the corporate limits of Rensselaer, after next Monday, willbe impounded and disposed of as provided in ordinance of June 3d, 1867, A step m thp f right direction. The stndauls of the Rensselaer School, assisted by their friends, will give a public entertainment at the Court House, Saturday evening, July 10th. Music, vocal ami 'instrumental, Drama, Charades, Tableaux, etc. The Brass Band has been secured. Proceeds tor sfepair of school* house. Admittance 25 cents, children 15 cents. The celebration fast Saturday, so far as we observed, was ns pleasant and satisfactory as the unfavorable weather would admit. So tar ns it could be carried out, the programme was complete. Owing to the rains that had fallen during' the week ami up to the morning of the third, it was im|>ossible for lion. A. Wolcott, who had promised to deliver, the oration, to be present, but his place was well supplied by Dr. Win. 11. Martin, who deserves the thanks of the public for the promtUude with which he responded to the call of the committee. In this connection it is well to sav that all performed their parts well. Wc learn that Mr. E. Heidleberger has purchased one of the most extensive assortments of <1 roe cries ever brought to Rensselaer, which, will be opened for inspection"todav. Mr. Heidlcbcrgcr has been dealing with the people of Jasper county for many years, and lias become intimately acquainted with their wants, consequently wc have no doubt the selection now offered by him will be found to be first eiass. Always affable and accomodating, we are sure those who favor him with their patronage will be satisfied antj pleased.
