RAILROAD MEETING.
Pursuant to a call published in life ItoniMelavr Union, the citizens <if Jsepor county to the number of tpru. or three hundred, assembled at Um Court House in Keussclacr, on Saturday/May Ist, l £OO. Jam) Benjamin, Esq., called the Meeting to order at 2 o'clock, j\ u. and nominated Dr. Win 11. Martin for. Chairman. Dr. Martin was elected Chairman and Horace E. James, Secro tarv. The Chairman stated tho object nf the meeting U» be tho consideration of the subject <*f a Ruilroad from Indianapolis to Chicago thro' the counties of Boone, Clinton, Carroll, White, Jafpcr and Lake; to Soint Delegates to attend a genmccting of the citizens of the counties uamed, at Delphi on the loth instant; to consider the practicability of the road; and to take the preliminary steps not cssary to attain this result. I. M. Stackhouse, Esq., road a letter from the Cidrotl county Corresponding Committee, in which it wa* inquired what, if anything, Jasper county would do in nil of the proposed enterprise, and suggesting Delphi as the place to hold a convention preliminary to tho organization of a Railroad Company and designating Thursday, Mav 13th, as the day. On motion a Committee, consist ing of Messrs. S. I*. Thompson, Charles Platt and Dr. Jtoinncl W. Ritchey, was appointed to usninute delegatee to the meeting at Delphi on the 13th inst. On motion, a Committee, consisting of Messrs, I. M. Stockhouse, Jarod Benjamin, and Stephen Donaldson, was appointed to draft resolutions expressive of tho sense of the meeting regarding the construction of the proposed Railroad. During the absence of the committees, Messrs. J. lieportconcurred in and committee discharged. On motion, all persons from Jasper county who can attend the meeting at Delphi, were authorized to act as delegates. Committee on Resolutions made the fallowing report of resolutions: "Whereas, An effort is being made bv the people of Clinton, Carroll and White counties to construct a Railroad from Indianapolis to Chicago, via Frankfort, Delphi and Rensselaer, ami Whereas, Wc are vitally Interested in the construction of a Railroad to this place, but more especially one which will place us in direct communication with Chicago, and "Whereas, We believe this line to be a practical one on account of the Important connections it will make, .and the Character of the country thro’ which it will run, therefore "Rewlnerf, I. That wc pledge the people of Jasper county for asuliscrlption sufficient to grade, tie and bridge the proposed road through this county ana to secure to the company a free right of way, l^TTDEtfßensselaer Is" made a point on the line, and sufficient assurance is given that the road will be built. “2. That a committee of three be appointed as a permanent Committee of Correspondence, with authority to call meetings of the citizens of Jasper county at such times as they may deem necessary, “3d. That the Delegates to Delphi: be instructed, and are hereby authorized, to subscribe to the Articles of Association a due projwrtion of the fifty thousand dollars necessary to organise a company to build the proiiosed road, and that this meeting pledges Itself to indemnify them individually agaigst any undue amount they may thus subscribe.” Resolution adopted and committee was discharged. The Chair appointed as a permanent * f OEBESrONDIXG COMMITTEE Messrs. I. M. Stackhouse., Dr. \V. J. Laltue and Jared Benjamin. Dr. Samuel \V. Ritchey, Alfred Thompson, Esq., and others, were called upon and delivered short addresses. On motion, the Delegates \ycre instructed to assure the-people of Carroll and other counties interested, that Jasper county is wide awake to the advantages of the proposed enterprise and will do all in tneir power to secure the construction of the Railroad. Mr. Warner has been giving gratuitous lessons in vocal music, at the Christian Church, and the present was from his pupils. D. T. Haktead made the presentation speech. \ Board of Trustees for the Town of Rensselaer met in regular session May 3rd. 1860. Members present, Norman Warner, President, Johu Catl and Johh Thompson, Trustees, and Joshua Healey, Clerk. OrdeteJ, That tlie bonds of the officers elect shall be as lollows:—For Marshal and Treasurer, each, the sum of two thousand dollars; for Clerk and Assessor, each, the sum of one hundred dollars. Ordered, That the Hoard meet on the sth day of May, 1809, at l o’clock i\ at the Court Mouse, to receive and file the oaths of office ami approve the bonds of tho officers elect; to detorinino the amount of tax to be levied for the year 1869, and transact writ other business asmaycomo lefere tho Hoard.* Ordered, That the Hoard meet on Monday, the 17tlr day of May, 1£69, at 1 o’clock, r. m., to receivo the assessment rolls from tho Assessor, ami to transact such other business as may be presented. Ordered, That the Hoard meet on Monday, Stay 2 Uh, 1569, at 1 o'clock r. m., to hear uml decido fill complaints of and appeals from tho acts of the Assessor, and to levy-a tax upon the ta.table property of tlie Town for the year 18G9, audio transact such other business as may come before tho Board. Ordered, That tho Marshal return to the Board of Trustees at their special session on tlie sth day of May, 1809, a list of all taxes he lias been unable to collect, describing iu said list the property on which such taxes are charged, as the same is described on the duplicate in his possession, and that such delinquent taxes be placed on the tax duplicate of 1860 and be collected therewith. While assisting in moving his stable Mr. Clark received injuries which made it necessary for him to use crutches in getting about. '

The JSenton Tribune toys “two or three thousand acres of sod corn will bo planted on the Hickory Grove farm,” in Befiton county,, this season.
At the request of the latter, Gen. Robert E. Lee had an interview with'President Grant, on the Ist instant. lie expressed himself in favor of the 15th amendment.' Mr. Pollard’s paper, the Southern Opinion, has expired. Its last words are significant. “The dUP tinct Southern principles upon which this paper was founded are dead in the hearts of the people.” Amen! The Chicago Post says that Crawfordsville “oan /boast the most beautiful, accomplished, and intellectual ladies es any town of its size in the State.” Perhaps it *can. So can Rensselaer. The wojd “size” qualifies the sentence.
