ON THE SHORE.
BY M. A. P.
Wa walked together on the shore, One evonlng. you and I; We heard old ocean's sullen roar, And billows rolling nigh. The sun had ret, and where his rays Had left a rosy glow. Jart where the twilight met the day, The new moon hung her bow. IMS The white winged ship* sailed bravely by, The ocean breeze blew free— A thousand (tars were In the sky, A thousand on the sea. % ,v-j You talked to me of Ufa and love. Your voice was soft and low; The starry eyes that shone above, MS. Looked down with gentle glow. {And others wandered by the sea, (And heard Its sullen moan; I only heard It sing to me QH A low qpd gladsome tone. Ah, happy dream 1 too bright to last f Too soon the moments flow— On rosy wings they glided past, aThe while I talked with you. But now I walk the shore alone, I hear the moaning sea; It has no mors a Joyous tone, No hopeful voice for me. The stars above are still as true. The crescent moon as bright. The sca-wresze soft, as when, with yon, I walked the shore thet night. Bat now their charms, alas 1 have flown, I only hear the roar Of ocean’s voice; alone, alono, Alone,, I walk {be shore.
