Mr. Starr had his filled front the first freeze: There will be the usual quantity for summer use. J. Spitler, Esq.,' of the -well-known Rensselaer law firm of Hammond & Spitler, is at Washington and will probably witness the inauguration of General Grant, to-dsyr~ is called to tho card of Mr. John Baldus. It will be seen that Mr. Baidas intends to quit selling.liquor, and is going to fill up his saloon with groceries and asks a share of patronage.
That Lynx.
We were led into an error in reporting that Mr. Horace Peacock killed the lynx he brought to our office last week. We arc told that it was shot by Master Outer Hough. “Honor to whom honor is due.” Our pleasant voting friend, Wesley Thompson, has returned from tiie Miami Medical College, at Cincinnati, where he has been at* tending medical lectures this winter. We suppose lie lias received his diploma and is entitled to affix “M. D.” to his signature, and may be safely and properly addressed as Doctor Thompson.

Railread Route.
Rensskt aETt. I NIC, Fell. 27, 'of 1 , j I ,\ios: “Railroad” is all the j talk the*e times. V/e read of new | roads, “consolidation*,” 1 “extensions,” and ''.‘monopolies,” every day. But of lute we have seen little of any-road - loading through' j Now it strikes lnTii' 'l!.t l ' in.npbjJ want a road they can have one. A | road is needed from Cincinnati to ; Chicago —the two leading markets of the West. A road front LaFayettc, by way of Rensselaer and Crown Point, would satisfy the people here. But one from Indianapolis, the Capital City of Indiana, by way of Frankfort, Delphi, Montieello, Rensselaer arid Crown Point, might be more interesting. A road on this lino could carry passengers (and freight accordingly) one dollar cheaper than any other road now in operation. This with Indianaolis on the way would take the travel to Cincinnati. If the people want this road we, propose that they shall meet at once in their o-wn county seats, and resolve that they wi^'“Locate, grade and tie the road.” Then if any responsible company will take hold, finish and stock it let them do so; but let those who engage in the work, do it with the understanding that they, themselves shall -carryoa to eoniplctiom if nor sue rtTornpany presents itself. If railroads pay, \ve are satisfied thiSyivill, and if the people have to finish it (which is not likely) the road and the profits will be theirs, and they will manago it, subject only to their own interests and the laws of the State. If any one can think of abetter way let him spread .it before the people. Jasper County 'ig£Hing up very rapidly and wo must have another railroad. We think the people can build this ’'road if they will. We understand that Clinton county Is moving to bring the Evansville & Craivfordsville road through Frankfort. But we havo little doubt they woulfl much prefer the one we propose. Let u* consider whit we want. fS. W. RITCHEY. * «- \ Bast quality •YVhiteAY’heat .Fleur •t C. C. Starr’s.
Teachers’ Institute.
A Teachers’ Instituto will bo hold in Rensselaer, on Saturday, March 12th, 1860, for the benefit of the teachers of common schools of Jasper county. All teachers are urgently requested to attend, as no one can fail to sec the benefits to be derived from such meetings. „ Able and experienced educators are expected to conduct the exercises. (Signed) James A. Burnham, Wpi. 11. Gwipn, L J, Porter, Committee, and Geo, M. Johnson, School Examiner. jJaSP'If you don’t mean to mind your business it will not pay to advertise. Bread is the staff of life, and advertising is the staff of life in trade. Don’t attempt to advertise unless you have a good stock of meritorious articles. That is just what is kept at C. W. Hinkle’s Drug Store. advertising in dull times is like tearing out a dam because the water is low. People will believe what they see rather than what they hear, and seeing that the Drugs kept by Wesley Thompson are fresh and pure, they are fully satisfied and continue their patronage.
From the Cincinnati Commercial of February 16th. Value of Advertising in Cincinnati.. The Cincinnati newspapers have a national reputation, and circulate largely over half a dozen States.— We desire it understood that we do not attempt to appropriate for the Commercial exclusively this extended and excellent reputation. A share of it belongs to us, and we are not anxious as to the public appreciation of the portion that is ours. But we may speak more particularly of the Commercial because we know whereof WO speak in that connection. The Commercial circulates largely in Western Pennsylvaniai H’esf Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky , Tennessee, Indiana, Southern Illinois, and at all important points on the'Mississippi River, and considerably in Southern Michigan and Missouri. Other Cincinnati papers are throughout this vast region. The territory of the Cincinnati papers extends a day's railroad ri>.{e in every direction from the city. Thy* trade of the city can be restored throughout this territory by the aid of the press. Too many of onr manufacturers have a feeling that advertising in the newspapers is not exactly the tiling. They would be willing to pay for “reading matter,” but do. not like to be palpable advertisers. When they educate themselves out of these delusions they will see their ad- [ vantage in the knowledge that a business j man's advertisement, for which he is plainly-responsible, ts.of the nature of an official document, and receives move considerate attention than a puff in the reading matter , and is both more valua--1 bie and respectable.
Something Extra for Boys and Girls.
It is well known that the Little ! Corpoia', the brilliant Western Ju- ; venile, has a larger circulation than, any other Juvenile Magazine in the world. This has been gained by real merit and enterprise. —The Publishers are endeavoring i to double their immense circulation this year, and have determined to -*"*rd tli Magazine i-ree Fait thiiee months— J tin'll hr ebruary and March numbers of 1869 free to every family who send their address before the first of May, with four cents in stamps for return postage. These are intended as samples to those who are not now taking the Magazine in its new, enlarged form. , Address Alfred L. Sewell & Co., Publishers, Chicago, 111. —Animal Life is full of corruption and wo can only hope to escape the ills which fiesh is heir to by a judicious use of the remedies in nature’s store-house. In all the time which has past since the world began, mankind lias given great attention and some of its best talent to the study of medicine. While this Sacrifice has not been wholly in vain, the facts elicited arc few and mostly unsatisfactory. Among the truths which have beefrelieited is this, “that if w 6 keep the blood pure we must be healthy.” To purify the blood there is no medicine equal to Morse’s Indian Hoot Pills, as thousands of testimonials will verify.
