The democratic party, though beuten in the late contest, came out of the trial witb greater numerical strength than it had ever contained, and witb a spirit not less dauntless than would have animated it bad it been successful. It proved, again, in this event, as it had proved in the event of many past reverses, that it has vitality which no reverse can impair, aud whiph,' indeed, grows greater as tho work it has to do increases in magnitude. Looking at its vitality, and at the nature of its work, and at the discordant and destructible elements of the party opposing it, nothing is more cortaiu in the future than its early return to power. It will bo this result that shall reword every democrat who has watched, and waited, and prayed, and faithful, in all the lark days of the p^st. The Chicago Times will aid in the attainment of this result with all the power it possesses, in the belief that it is absolutely essential to tho recovery of those rights and liberties of which the states have been despoiled, and to tho arrest of that drifting toward centralization, which, If not .stayed, will reduce state lines to tho same cousequence as tho lines yf counties and towns, and establish a despotism At Washington all-pervading and more bateful than any oligarchy of Europe. Tho states mast again manage their domestic affairs in their own way, subject only to the constitution of this- United States. Those which want negro suffrage must have it, and those which do not want it must not havo it imposed on them by any external power'. And so of every other domestic coucern. Nor will there be return to an honest administration of tho government, nor will tbe public debt bo put in tbe way of just and equitable payment, the public credit bo re-established, and taxation be reduced to tolorable proportions, until democratic wisdom and integrity shall once moro prevail. Tho WEEKLY EDITION OF THE TIMES, in all respects a democratic journal, faithful to doraocratio principles, and earnest in the advocacy of democratic measures, commends itself to tho patronage of earnest democrats and to circulation as a perpetual campaign paper. In its other foaturoe, as domestic, foroign, and commercial intelligence, literature, gossip, &0., &c., it is not surpassed in excellence by any weekly publication. Its whole character is comprehensively stated in saying that it is a great democratic and family|newspaper. To every farmer, its market intelligence alone is worth many times tho price of subscription. PRICES OF SUBSCRIPTION. THE WEEKLY EDITION.
