Barclay Coppie, then a Lieutenant in a Kansas regiment, was killed at Platte Bridge, Missouri, through the destruction of a railroad by guerrillas. A Ferociops Bird.—The Paoli Union says: “On Friday last, Messrs. Jones and Hill were out hunting, nnd killed a “ferocious bird,” one mile west of Paoli, and they furnish us with the following particulars: ‘This inhabitant of the firmament measures from the tip of its wings, seven feet nine inches; from the beak to the end of the tail, three feet; its head measures nine inches in circumference, ajidmform is like that of the hawk tribe—its neck is short, and studded with feathers from five to seven inches long. The body of the wing measures eighteen inches, and tho feathers, or quill, is twenty-four inches, thus gfving it ft length of forty-two inches. The body measures twentysi r juclrns in_circuniference.; Its leg is one foot and seven inches in circumference, nnd is furnished with four talons, the middle one measuring two inches, the long feathers almost hiding them from view.
