Rowdyism.
On last Friday and Saturday ■night* many persons (mostly boys) totally overcome by tho greatness of our victories over the Democra<y, forgot to recognize the rights ol properly or persona, and destroyed I,a largo amount of property in building bontires on the street*. Some of oar merchants had as high ns twenty dollars worth of boxes and barrel* destroyed, Not content with this wanton destruction td property, they must needs tear up : fridges and overturn out btrildirrgs, build fences across the aireet, and , ih> many other acts contrary to law Mini deserving of punishment. It is ilje duty of all good citizens | to try and bring the perpetra- ; torsot these nets of vandalism, and tliea« row lies to justice, and provuni a recurrence of any such ibsgraoefnl conduct. It will not be astonishing if at the next term of the Circuit several indictments are found against those who have been on-! gagedTTi what to them tnay havo seemed a little inuscbtol, small liue they will lesrn that it it rather an expensive luxury, to burn bee hives, 'boxes and barrels that do not belong to lb cm., Wo hope hereafter, that both men and boys \v,hi\n they feel disposed tollluminnfo t, 1 '^TiiiTffsiwllEXeSH^-Vlter-fairn'tmTr- «*, barrels, cto, first consult the owners of the proporty, and see if they are willing-vbat it should be appropriated to such purpose. All of our merchants nre public spirited men, and will at any lime give everything that, they have in the shape of tar barrels, and boxes, if they can possibly spare it, but they are not willing- that -their rooms .should bo broken into aud their things taken by force. It is to be hopod for the good of tho town, and particularly for the good of the young men who were guilty of theso acts .that they do not occur again.
