A Great Social Event.
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Hollingsworth were the hosts at a most enjoyable dancing party Tuesday evening, Dec. 22, at the Ellis Opera House. The roonjs Wro brilliuntly lighted, and beautifully decorated with Christinas garlands and Japanese and the favors many and varied, being' candy hearts, rosea, carnations tissue paper neekties, feather boos, caps, hats, altegators, etc. The orchestra from Chicago furnished exquisite music, the German was led by Miss Foster of Detroit with Mr. Jesse E. Wilson and the dancing was unusually beautiful and" enjoyable. The tables were laid upon the stage, which was transformed into a (lining hall, and lighted by candles, a most elegant menu was served by the trained waiters of the Makeever House. After this more dancing until the morning hours broke up the party. The dresses worn were most elegant and beautiful, and the whole nffair was pronounced most delightful by all the guests. Death of Elizabeth M.Buim*A very sudden death ocoured in town-'.-Fridey afternoon. 4* wasthat of Mrs Elizabeth M. Bugun, a widow, and it„occured at the'mome of J. C. Carmichael, east of the depot. She was there caring for Mrs. Carmichael who Is very bad with the dropsy. Mrs. Burns took sick 10 oc.lock a. m. and expired at 4‘p. m. The cause of her death, as stated by her physician, was epilepsy, i ’* Mrs. Burns was the daughter of John Potts, an bid resident. She was born in Franklin'Co. iq 1858, and was brought here by her parents the same year. She married Elmer Burns, in Barkley tp.,Oct. 26, 1878,' and he died the following January, from a horse kick. She has remained
a widow ever since. For several years she ha 3 made her home with her brother ’ Larkin Potts, in the east part of town; and she was generally known as Elizabeth Potts. The remains were taken to her brother’s residence soon after her decease^ The funeral was held Sunday, morning at 9:30 by Rev. W- O. Moore the Christian church and was largely attended. Interment in Prater Cemetery, Barkley township.
