The City Council.
Monday night was regular semimonthly Council theeting night. An important new street was ordered opened. It is a continuation of MeilviHe street. It will begin on the stock farm road, now called Grace street, just west of Alt Padgett’s new house, and rqn south, across the river, and continue on until it intersects country road near the entrance of the old fair grounds. Forty-seven claims were allowed. The unpaid assessments on Mellvjlle Street sewer were turned over to City Attorney Mills, for collection. A committee was appointed to proceed, in company with Fire Warden Steward, to investigate the safety of the Fendig Drug store building and McDonald’s poultry yards.. The bill boards at the court house well were ordered removed. . —Some parties in the far- western ♦ part of town, wanted to bunt coonß and gather hickory nuts at night, in the grove in ’Thompson's addition, asked for art' arc light at the intersection of Clark street and West Washington, They got an incandescent instead. An ordinance is under consideration prohibiting barb wire fences inside the corporation. The printed copies of the city ordinances have been received and are ready for distribution. ,• * ■ A Former Young Townsman Honored. Albert Fendig, Rensselaer boy, and stilPjrell known and
always popular in this his old home, has been for some time an Alderman in his southern city home, Brunswick, Ga., and last Wednesday evening he was further honored by being elected chairman of the city council. The Brunswick. Evening’Advertiser, of Dec., 24th thus speaks of this selection of Mr. Fendig: “In the advancement of Hon. Albert Fetadig to the mantle of .temporary mayorality, sa chairman of the council, was a unanimous recognition of his conservation disposition, to duties and' prudence of action, and one of ou& most highly appreciated young men, faithful wherever, tried, false in nothing. May he serve to higher honors.”
