Commissioners’ Court.
The December term of the Com miesioners’ Court Convened Monday, with Hons. Martindale, Jones and Halleck all present, President Halleck in the chair. The disposal of claims occupied all of Monday’s time. Tuesday a saloon license was granted to Chas. Gundy, of Fair Oaks. The application of Conrad Kellner of Rensselaer was considered, but a remonstrance having been filed, signed by a majority of the voters of the ward where the saloon building is located, under the provisions of the Nicholson law, and his application was rejected. He has taken an appeal to the circuit court. George Strickfaden applied for a license for a saloon in the first ward of Rensselaer, in a room on Van Rensselaer street near the town hall. An attempted remonstrance had failed of a majority of legal voters, and no opposition was made other than that the Board wad referred to the record of the September term, where it was shown that a legal remonstance had been filed against him in the second ward, it being held by the opponents that said remonstance would bar the applicant in the county for two years. The Board held that the two year bar only operated in the ward where the remonstance h was gotten up, and his license was granted.
