An Aged Woman’s Death.

Mrs. Nancy Smith, widow of John A. Smith, one of the oldest and also one of the most respected residents of Barkley Township, died last Saturday, August Bth, 1896, at the age of 79 years, 6 month)) and 18 days. Her maiden name was Kenton and she was bora in Champaign Co., Ohio, Jan. 20th, 1817. Was married to John A. Smith about tho year 1835; and came to Jasper Co., in 1839, being thus among our earliest settlers. She has lived in tbe county ever since tbe above date, except for a short period spent in Wisconsin. She was the mother of 12 children, only four of whom survive her. She also leaves 24 grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren. She became a member of the Christian or Disciplea church in 1841, and lived and died an earnest and consistent Christian. The funeral was held at the residence, Sunday forenoon, conducted by Rev. R. S. Morgan. Interment in Smith cemetery.
