Rensselaer Republican, Volume 27, Number 40, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 11 June 1896 — The Circuit Court. [ARTICLE]
The Circuit Court.
Uncle Kane Galbraith was tried again on the same old charge of drunkeness in a public place. After a trial lasting the largest part of the day, and the jury remaining out the biggest part of the night, the verdict was guilty and the fine was 1~ cent and costs, the last item amounting to about $24. This is the second trial of this case, the first trial having been a disagreement. It is estimated that this 1 cent increase of the school fund has cost Jasper county considerably over SIOO to collect. The last term cases against Remington parties for gambling were continued to October. The complaining witness, Chas. McCullough, has made himself scarce.
