The City Couneil.
The city council of Rensselaer held its second regular meeting, Monday evening; Mayor McCoy in the chair and Councilman Alter. Meyer, Spitler, Porter, Bobinson and Right, all present Rules of Order, and Order of Business were adopted. L. A Bostwick was appointed City Engineer, at a salary of $3 per day, or 30 cts per hour, for time actually employed. For permanent Street Commissioners, to be appointed by the circuit judge, the M. Wasson, J. T. Randle, Henry Grow, J. C. Gwin, G. Robinson were recommended. The Marshal was directed to make an inventory of all city property, and report at next meeting. The Street Committee and attorney were directed to make a compromise, if practicable, with A. L. Havens, in the block 4 alley matter, which Mr. Havens Has appealed to the circuit court. A petition was presented for G. M. Robinson asking the Council to repudiate its former action in accepting the plat of Harvey’s Addition. Mr. Robinson owns land adjoining the addition and he and Dr. Kannal are at outs regarding the manner in which the addition is laid out. Action on the petition was deferred to get legal advice. A bicycle and fast driving ordinance was passed to a second reading. It prohibits driving faster than 10 miles an hour; and bike riding faster than 8 miles an hour. Also requires all bikes out after dark to carry a head-light. The Street committee was directed to investigate the propriety of baying a vacant lot for a city garbage dump. The same oommittee was also directed to get estimates 09 the oost of a bridge over Makemsslf, near Jared Benjamin’s. The Treasurer’s report was reoeived and referred to the Finance Committee. The official bond of Treasurer Starr was received. It is a perfectly solid bond, and signed by the following persons: C. C. Starr, W. B. Austin, A. H. Hopkins, G. K. Hoilingworth, D. B. Nowels, John Eger, J. F. Hiss, H. B. Murray, M. L. Spitler, and A Leopold. On recommendation of the fire company E. M. Parcels was appointed Chief of the Fire Department, & L. Morgan First Assistant, Eldon R. Hopkins Second, A. J. Knight Third. 75 ct. corset, 45 cts. at Tbs Modal Saturday. Bob Phillips Laundry. Ladies’ Shirt Waists, and Collars and Cuffs, a specialty.
