Transparent Leather.
The manufacture of transparent leather Is now carried on by a new pro* cess. After the hair has been !rom the hide, the latter, tightly stretched upon a suitable frame, Is rubbed with a solution of glycerine and numer»us acids; and afterward placed In a room where tfie rays of the sun do not penetrate; It Is then saturated with a lolution of bichromate of dotash. When Jie hide is dry an alcoholic solution ot :ortolse -shell is applied to its surface, ind the transparent effect is thus obtained.
