In Hard Luck.
The way to improved conditions is usually beset with difficulties in most matters and circumstances* and The Republican, in its present attempt to improve its printing fa-, cihties is no exception to that rule. Our new steam press, from which we expected and still expect great things, is nevertheless causing us considerable inconvenience just now. Last week the inevitable trouble of getting the press itself properly adjusted, and in full working Order, was a matter of much time and trouble, and no sooner was* that fully accomplished, than it developed that our present steam engine was ted small and light to “pull” the press. The purchase of a new engine was thus a matter of immediate me ssity; and while it i would have been an affair of but a few days time-to have procured an - 1 1 ordinary steam! engine, like our present one, but larger; or of any other style of make, we found that to get the kind of engine we wanted; one of the latest improved gas motors, would be a matter of a month’s time, at least, so far behind was the factory with their orders Thus for the next few "weeks the press work of Tub Rkpitotican will he dohft at a great disadvantage, and at much inconvenience and loss of time. For that reason, and to relieve as far as pos-
sible the inconvenience, we have found it advisable, and almost absolutely necessary, in fact, to return for the time being to the use of ready prints on our inside pages. This at this bust - advertising season, will entail upon us Considerable financial loss, but is the least of two evils.
