THE BIG BARBECUE.

The two dSy’s barbecue and “old settlers” meeting, held at the grounds of the Rensselaer Stock Farm, last Thursday and Friday, was a fair successin point of attendance, and in the matter of sports and entertainments of all kinds, was as that the committee promised as their most strenuous efforts could make, or that any reasonable peraoa could ask. The attendance the last day was fully 2,000, inside the grounds, not to speak of the large but economical audience in the street Ihe first day it was not quite so large. Two Jgjg-steers and three sheep were roasted and this, with plenty of bread, excellent coffee, etc., furnished an abundance of food for everybody that wahted it, on both days. On each day the sports ended by a balloon ascension with parachute descent, by “Miss Alfretta Adair,’’ whose real name is Mrs. Baum, and whose home is in St. Louis, but whtse services were fortunately secured by the committee while she and he r husband were visiting her parents, in White county. She is a bold and skillful aeronaut, and, the conditions of the weather being also exceptionally favorable, the two ascensions were as fine as any ever seen in the county. The first day addresses were made by Hon. S. P. Thompson, of Rensselaer, and Hon. John Odell, of Delphi. _ GAMES AND HACES. ' ' ~~ " B .cycle race, one mile, best 2 in 3. Purse $25. El.
