Killed By Lightning in Township.
The heavy thunder storm of last Wednesday night, resulted in one death, in Gillum. The Medaryville Advertiser gives the following account of the circumstance: Lightning claimed a victim in this neighborhood on Wednesday night in the person of Mr. John Garling, living 3£ miles south-west of town on the so-called Old David Gray Place. Mr. Garling and family had retired when the storm came up and his wife told him he had better shut the windows. Mr, Garling went to the kitchen, procured and struck a light and in returning to the bedroom was struck by lightning while crossing the threshold of the room, killing him instantly and rendering his wife unconscious. Luckily the house was not set afire or else the whole family would probably have perished in it. Mr. Garling was a young man of about thirty years of age and leaves a wife and three small children to mourn his loss.
