The County Commissioners.
Saloon licenses have been granted to Jas. Ellis, of Remington, and Michael Bemicken, of Wheatfield. No opposition was made to either application. In the license case of Geo. Stricbfaden, of Rensselaer, a remonstrance signed by 381 alleged voters of Marion Tp., was filed, or 13 more than a majority. The applicant filed a paper signed by 14 ©f these signers asking to have their names taken from the remonstrance. This request, if granted, would have left the remonstrance without a majority. The Commissioners decided that the law gave them no authority to allow signers to take their names off. The applicant through Thompson A Bro., his attorney, then filed a paper denying that, the names on the remonstrance are genuine; the object being to compel the remonstrants to bring every man who signed the paper, into court to swear to his name. This point is not decided as we go to press.
