Water Works Defeated.

Contrary to the example of every neighboring town which has voted on the water works question within the past year or two, the election here Tuesday resulted in the defeat of the proposition, by quite a decided majority.

Too many good wells in town was one reason for this result; the absence of serious fires in town in the past was another; fear of increased taxes already rather high was still another, and failure of the friends of the enterprise to begin their “cam paign of education” a few weeks earlier, was the greatest cause of all. The election was very quiet, but a pretty large vote was polled.
