A Letter From Capt Out former townsman, Capt. F, W. Babcock, now in the general practice of the law at Canton, Ohio, writing as is still his wont to renew his subscription to This Republican, throws in a few sagacious remarks which will be of general interest, and which we take the liberty to here publish. Thk Republican comes to me like a letter from home and I hardly see how I can do without it lam glad
to note through its columns the progress which is being made in developing the material resources of Jasper county. After having been in a considerable part of ten or twelve surrounding states, I have no hesitancy in saying that I believe there is a great future for Jasper county and it will compare favorably witb most other sections and is superior in matay ways to a great many. If the schemes of drainage which have been inaugurated shall be carried out and followed by the minor extensions which these will naturally suggest, and the gravel road system which has been started at Rensselaer shall be extended over the principal thoroughfares to the county boundaries in different directions, the next decade will make such a change in the appearance, productiveness, and general facilities of Jasper county, that one dropping down there at that time, would hardly know it in comparison with ten years ago. With kindest recollections for its good people and my old associations there, and with good wishes for the prosperity of your meritorious paper, I remain, very truly yours,
FRANK W. BABCOCK.
