DUNNVILLE ITEMS.
The cold weather and heavy frost did great damage to most all of .the garden, but it is said that the Jpiut was not injured a great deal. J. C. Burke of Chicago shipped a carload of cattle to Dunnville this week. His foreman C. H. Vanordstandt drove them to the Burke ranch in Porter Co. The boys of our town say that C. R. Peregrine is monopolizing the company of the young ladies. It is feared he will form a trust. Too bad • boys. Better strike.
A number of our young men were trying their strength in the Dunnville depot this week by lifting on the scales. Mr. Arthur Kline lifted 695 lbs., but when he tried to walk he found his leg wouldn’t go. He had to be helped home. Was improving at last report. Kankakee township has as great a number of old gentlemen as we usually find in one community. Mr. B. J ones being 85 years of age, Mr. Rockwell 86, A. Hughes 84, and Chas Miles 87. Besides a number of others who have lived their three score years and ten. — r “I fear you are forgetting me," Belle said In tones polite. Heck said, "I’m in for getting yon, Thats -why I came to night.” Birdie De Armond is in Chicago. Rev. Yandecar conducts religious services at Dunnville school house once each week. There is no excuse for non church goers in this vicinity as there is public worship from four to six times each week and about nine different religious denominations represented in our township.

She was only a little past twenty-four years of age. The services were held Monday, May 20. Interment took place at the Gilboa cemetery. Commencement passed off very much after the manner of commencements in general. The “sweet girl graduates ” were lovely as “sweet girls” are. The themes were well delivered and ably written, and the house was crowded to its utmost capacity. Mrs. Almira Smith is very sick at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Wilson.

A Letter From Capt Out former townsman, Capt. F, W. Babcock, now in the general practice of the law at Canton, Ohio, writing as is still his wont to renew his subscription to This Republican, throws in a few sagacious remarks which will be of general interest, and which we take the liberty to here publish. Thk Republican comes to me like a letter from home and I hardly see how I can do without it lam glad
to note through its columns the progress which is being made in developing the material resources of Jasper county. After having been in a considerable part of ten or twelve surrounding states, I have no hesitancy in saying that I believe there is a great future for Jasper county and it will compare favorably witb most other sections and is superior in matay ways to a great many. If the schemes of drainage which have been inaugurated shall be carried out and followed by the minor extensions which these will naturally suggest, and the gravel road system which has been started at Rensselaer shall be extended over the principal thoroughfares to the county boundaries in different directions, the next decade will make such a change in the appearance, productiveness, and general facilities of Jasper county, that one dropping down there at that time, would hardly know it in comparison with ten years ago. With kindest recollections for its good people and my old associations there, and with good wishes for the prosperity of your meritorious paper, I remain, very truly yours,
FRANK W. BABCOCK.
