The County School Enumeration. The enumeration of children between the ages of six and 21 years, in Jas)er county, has been completed, and the returns tabulated by the County Superintendent. We give herewith this table, and for comparison, the figures showing gain or loss over last year: Mis Feml Total Gain Barkley - 250 236 486 63 Carpenter - 163 157 320 Gillam - 113 103 216 4 I’g Grove - 84 70 154 22 Jordan - 132 122 254 25 Xankakee - 93 63 156 20 Keener - - 156 109 265 12 Marion - - 178 149 327 14 Milroy - - 72 49 121 8 Newton - 95 95 190 7 Union - ■ 170 158 328 27 Walker - 131 111 242 36 WheatfieldTp 63 61 124 : Rensselaer , 330 353 683 29 Remington - 166 221 387 22 Wheatfield Tn 53 49 102 102 Totals - 2249 2106 4355 net 284 Loss: Carpenter 24; Wheatfield Tp. 81. The net increase of the total enumeration of 284, over last year, is quite notable, and denotes an increase m our county’s population of nearly 1000, since last year’s count was made. The only corporation which actually decreased in school enumeration, is Carpenter Tp. The apparent loss in Wheatfield Tp., is explained by the fact that Wheatfield town having jeen incorporated, is enumerated by itself this year, while last year town and township were enumerated together. Their combined enumeration this year shows an increase of 21 over last year. The distribution of the sexes in the above table, is a problem. Why is it that in the two principal towns the r emales so largely outnumber the males, while in the township, exactly the opposite condition prevails ? Austin, Hollingsworth & Co. have pu rebased the only complete set of Abstract Books in Jasper County. T hey are prepared co make abstracts on short notice and on reasonable terms.
