Two Alarms For One Fire.
F. B. Meyer, the druggist had a close call for losing his residence, on River street, by fire last Saturday night. A gasoline heater in a bath room in his summer kitchen, had been leaking* and when Mr. Meyer’s son sought to light the heater, the leaked gasoline took fire, and in an instant the whole : room was burning, and from the bath room the fire spread at once to the ! kitchen, and from there to the main building. The fire company soon arrived and by their excellent work the fire was apparently all extinguished. It would seem however, that the fire company did not have the fire quite all put out, forjabout an hour later it broke out again, around the chimney, and caused the fire alarm to be again sounded: This second fire was also soon put out. The entire damage, from the fire, smoke and water, Mr. Meyer estimates at about S2OO to $250.
Had the wind been in an opposite direction when the fire first broke out it wouid scarcely have been possible to have prevented the whole building from burning. The loss on the building is about all covered by insurance but there was no insurance on the contents.
