Rensselaer Republican, Volume 27, Number 30, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 21 March 1895 — Call For Town Convention. [ARTICLE]

Call For Town Convention.

The Republican voters of Rensselaer will meet in mass convention at the Court House, on Wednesday, April dtli, 1895, at 7:30 o’clock P. M. to nominate candidates to be voted for at the ensuing election, -for the offices of Town Treasurer, Town Clerk, Town Marshal, and Trustees of the Third and Fifth Districts. A new law is the one requiring township trustees to keep and publish once a year in one newspaper of general circulation a complete record of the receipts and expenditures of public funds in their office. It has been charged that this bill was drawn up and introduced in the interest of Republican editors, but, the bill was introduced by Senator Sellers, the .leader of the Democratic minority, and while at wiUTesulFlir some additional expense, its value to the tax payers is so apparent that none will deny that it is a wise and beneficial act. Township money will be carefully handled and disbursed when a complete record of it is required to be spread before the taxpayers.
