Mrs; Meehan and family no# occupy B. R Pettitt’s house on Indiana Street The picture enlargers who struck our town last week Tuesday did not do a flourishing business here. = Bom Jan. Ist to Mr. and Mrs. Ar. thur Harris, of Lafayette, an eight pound daughter. The little woman is the first great grand-daughter of Mrs. Wm. Shaw, of this place. Mr. and Mrs. P. McGuire rejoice in the possession of another daughter since Jan. Bth. Mike Harris and wife of South Dakota, are visiting relatives here. Mrs. Roxie Hawn is visiting her sister Mrs. Shipman. Miss Helen Cross is making a fortnights visit in Chicago. The teachers' meeting which was transferred from toe school house last Monday, to the residence of Prof. Murphy was a very interesting occasion—especially the last recitation which consisted of ice cream, cake and coffee. Mrs. Ferguson, of Flora, Ind., is in attendance at the bedside of her daughter Mrs. Riley, whose illness is assuming a very critical form. E. A. Bartoo has sold his fartti two miles south of town to Mr. Corey, of Benton county, for $75 per acre. Miss Alma Babb returned to Duluth, last Friday. She will fill a position as private secretary in a judge’s office. Last Thursday thirteen land buyers struck our town It is more than likely that all the land around will be bought or sold before long. Mr. Esau Hart who has catered to the traveling public for more than a score of years has sold his hotel property to Wm. Jordan, and gives possession the first of March.
Mrs. Treanor who has been visiting her sisters Mrs. Graham and Mrs. Snell for the past four months, went to Nickerson, Kans. Monday, Jan. 7. Mrs. Ed Peck surprised her “liege lord” last Saturday night by inviting in two score of his friends to celebrate his twenty-ninth birthday. Those present report a jolly time and a bountiful supper. Mr. Frank Harlacher returned to Waukegan 111., last week. Miss Addie Cochrane was the guest of Mrs. Ed Maxwell over Sunday. Mr. O’Connor, brother of John O’Connor was burned up in his home last Sunday night. Mr .O’Connor suffered an injury from a horse, when a boy, which hurt his brain, thus making it necessary that he be kept in close confiment. His house which was near his brother John’s was arranged in such a way that he could not possibly have access to the fire, so the origin of the fire is a mystery. The family heard no noise and knew nothing of it until the house was burned to the ground. Mr. Morningster who lives with his daughter, Mrs Taylor, south of town, lost his eyesight some time ago, aud now through constant brooding over his misfortune it is feared he has lost his mind.
