The Morning Call.
Detroit Free Frees. A lady making a morning call on quite a distinguished social leader in this city gave her name to the housemaid and was shown into the parlor, where she waited some time. Finally p. rush was heard on the stairs, and the lady of the house, buried under a stack of old garments, which she carried in her arms, hurriedly entered the parlor. “There, she said, throwing the heap on the floor at the feet of the astonished visitor, “what will you give me for the lot?” t When she saw who her caller was she was struck with dismay. “I thought you were the old clothes woman,” she gasped. “I had some things to dispose of and I sent her a postal to call this morning. The stupid girl did not get your name right. Do excuse me.” It was embarrassing all round, as one of the participants in the mistake had, in the vernacular of the street, “given herself away” to the other, and both were in haste to separate and think it over. An Irish carpenter fell from the roof to the ground, and when picked up remarked: “I was coming down after nails anyway.
