A FATAL FIGHT.
Andrew Bowen Killed In a PngUlitlc Encounter. . Andrew Bown, the pugilist, was killed In a prize fight with Geo. Lavigne, at New Orleans, Friday night. Dec. 14. Bowen was knocked senseless in the eighteenth round and never regained consciousness. Bowen was terribly punished after the fifth round but took it gamely, though sporting men say he was “not in it” at any time. After his “knock out” Bowen
was conveyed to his home, where he died at 7:15 a.m., Saturday morning. After his death Lavigne and the officers of the Auditorium Club, under whose auspices the fight was conducted, were arrested. Lavigne was admitted to bail in $10,090. The others in $5,000. Duffy, the referee, and Spitzfaden, were the only ones to furnish bonds. Lavigne, Billy Murphy, Sam Fitzpatrick, Jim Hail, Martin Murphy and George Considine were sent to jail. /
