THE CATHOLIC FAIR.
The Catholic Fair closed last Thursday night, after a very successful season of three days. The remarkably large receipts show how successful it was. These were a total of $1304 of which about $1125 will be clear above all expenses. The chief interest centered about the various contests, and these also were the principal sources of the leceipts. The contest for a fine gold ring, between Misses Maggie Healy and Ura McGowan, resulted in a victory for Miss Healy. Her votes footed the amount of $153.43; and Miss McGowan’s to $86.36. In recognition of Miss McGowan’s efforts, Father Nuiberg presented here with a ring of similar value to the one contested for.
The gold watch contest for the most popular merchant was between John Eger and F. B. Meyer. The contest was very close, but Mr. Eger won, by $78.53 in his box to $76.63 in Meyer’s. The gold “watch contest for most popular member of the congregation was also very close, between Michael Nagel and James Walters. Walters won with $224 19 to $212.24 for Nagel. Mr. Nagel’s friends afterwards presented him with an equally fine watch.
•The oil painting contest, resulted as follows: Miss Emma Lane, $35.82 Miss Lizzie ixtrper, $43.90; Mis 3 Agnes Carlin, $44.27.
The cane contest was a one sided affair, as Mr. Spitler did not enter the list. The votes for Mr. Nowcls amounted to $25.
