It weighed 323 pounds and four ounces and was found in 1852. It is not generally known that when a person falls into the water a common felt hat can be made use of as a life preserver. By placing the hat upon the water, rim down, with the arm around it, pressing it slightly to the breast, it will bear a man up for hours.
