Jake Thomas has gone to Fairbury for a short vis.t to his family. Misses Flo and Olla Henncks are visiting at Tipton Ind. Miss Bessie Green returned' to her homo In South Bend, Wednesday. Mr.-and Mrs, Hargraves have returned /from their visit at Clifton, id. Mrs. James Sheet/, and daughter, Miss Fanny, are visiting here this week. Bert Shepherd will give a concert at-Goodland, July 25th, assisted by Goodland talent. Mrs. Jesse Solomon returned to her home Saturday after a seven week’s visit. Mr. Will Dunlap, of Aurora 111., visited Ids aunt, Mrs. E. A. Bartoo, last week. Mr. Bryan Cawley, who suffered a relapse lust week is again slowly-im-proving. Mr. and Mrs. H E Hartley entertained a score of their friends last Thursday.
Erastiis Burton is able to lie around again.after a six weeks, struggle with typhoid fever. Mrs. Peter Parks arrived from Ya 1 - paraiso last week. They- will make their home here for the present. The Junior Endeavor Society of the Christian church picnicked at the fair ground Friday. Hartley Bros, are making quite extensive repairs on the East Elevator, enlarging its capacity considerably. Mr. John Burger is making improvements on his house. The roof is to be raised and the house re-, modled and enlarged ,^ The Remington Second Nine played the Sheldon Second Nine at Iventland, last Friday, winning by one score. ' ? Miss Lizzie Hardy has been quite ill for several days. Her sister, Mrs. Hildreth, has returned to her horn e in Rensselaer. An infant child of Thomas Bancs, who lives 5 miles northeast of town was buried from the Catholic church Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Parker have gone to Duluth for a couple of weeks. En route they will visit B. M. Butler, at Evanston, 111,

Schofield, state evangelist of the Christian church preached here Tuesday night. He it as assisted by Elder Kinney, of Montieello. Mr. Thomas Shew, who lias been in Mr. Ilollett’s employ for nearly a decade has quit the business and Mr. Hollett has had the pleasure of delivering the coal himself this week. .. Luce Bond came 'in from Chicago Monday morning on his bicycle, getti.bg here in time for breakfast. He would have reached here sooner if he had not gotten off the road. • About 'l:3.p p. m., the fire alarm -sounded, and the engine and fire company' responded in good shape. It proved however only to be a brush heap, greatly to the disgust of the company. Uncle Tern's Cabin with a full accompanient of blood hounds and donkeys pitched their tent on the common across from Clowery a livery stable Tuesday morning, greatly to tne delight of the -small bo vs.
Drs. Potkuisje and Pratt performed a very delicate operation upon Miss Annie Sally of Seaiiekl, who is boarding at Mr. Opdyke’s during treatment. She is suffering from suffusion of pus in the pleura, and they cut out a part of one rib, removing about a quart of pus. She is much worse at present writing. At the foot races Thursday afternoon O. B. Mclntire came off winner of the north side and Sam Thompson of the south side. Friday afternoon at the champion race, which was not run, Thompson was declared winner. At the third trial Monday evening Sam Bowman ran against .Take Barnes and Sam came out ahead. Anything to keep cool this hot weather.
