The following is the Queen's letter of sympathy-to-Mme. CarnaL, “Madame—Although I have not the pleasure of knowing you personally, 1 cannot refrain from writing to you ami attempting to express the deep and sincere sympathy I feel for you at this terrible moment. J Cannot find words to tell you how my widow’s heart, bleeds for you and what horror and dismay I feel for the crime that has robbed you of a beloved husband and the whole of France a most worthy and respected President. If universal sympathy can in any manner assuage yourqnteuso grief; be assured that it is yours*.
