DEMOTTE ITEMS.

A much needed rain was received here Saturday afternoon and Sunday, by which the crops are greatly benefitted. On account of the sickness of our pastor, Bro. W. W. Berry, Rev,-Ball, of Rose Lawn, has been appointed by Elder "Wilson to finish out the rest of the year. J. M. Troxell has gone on a two or three weeks’ visit to his brother John, at Delphi.

< June 27th Elder Wilson will lecture at the DeMotte church, subject, ‘‘That husband of mine.” An ice cream and cake social held at the sceool house, for the benefit of Bro. Berry, net profits 815.00. Childrens’ day exercises will be held at the church next Sabbath at 3 o’clock p. m. All are invited to attend.

The Continental Insurance Co. has paid James N. White, of Tefft, through their agent, John F. Bruner, the sum of 81351, being the amount of his loss, May 9 th. ’ June Bth being Lone Shaffner’s birthday, the DeMotte band with wives, daughters and sweethearts as the case might be, met at his home to the number of about 50. We were royally received and not the least feature of the evening’s entertainment was the repast of ice cream and cake. The only mean part of it was that Lone wouldn’t tell us how old he was, but of course he is a bachelor and wants to keep that to himself. The DeMotte Band will give an ice cream and cake social next Saturday evening at the school house. All are invited. From the looks of the tomato crop the DeMotte Canning Co., will need lots of help this fall. Charles Landis, of Delphi, will be numbered among our speakers for the 4th, his acceptance being too late to publish on the bills.
